Build ocean confidence, learn to surf, and explore the marine environment in a supportive, girl-centered environment. All equipment, wetsuits, and lunch are provided! No experience is necessary as participants are welcomed into the Brown Girl Surf community.
This year's summer camp is 4 days long, with expanded environmental education components! Each day starts at 8:15 am and ends at 3:15 pm. On Monday, we will spend the whole day locally in Oakland. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we will meet in Oakland and travel to Half Moon Bay. On these days, we will meet at 8:15 at Met West High School, and return to Met West High School by 3:15pm.
All sessions are open to female-identified and nonbinary youths ages 9 - 19. Nine year olds must be going into 5th grade, and 19 year olds must be graduating High School seniors. Minimum enrollment is 6 participants per session. Maximum enrollment is 12 participants per session. Depending on the demand, we may have to limit participants to one session of summer camp.
The cost to us as an organization for running these programs is $350 per individual per session. We ask that those who are able to pay this amount do. We are committed to making surfing accessible to everyone so sliding scale pricing is also available.
