China - First Sponsored Female Surfer
_ Name: Darci Liu
Location: Hainan, China
Age: 25
Unique thing about her: She trained as a ballerina before she picked up surfing!
Darci is China’s first female competitive surfer. She married a Californian native who introduced her to the sport and has been hooked every since. Only a handful of women in China surf so Darcy is quite an anomaly. In a land where getting dark in the sun is considered nothing short of a social status liability, this trailblazing young woman is breaking societal and cultural barriers by taking to the water, competing in surf tournaments and creating waves of change in her community.
We hope to learn more about Darci and her unique story, and her vision for surfing and social change in China.
